Characteristics

Shrub 1.5–4 m. tall; young branches glabrous; older branches without corky bark.. Leaves glabrous; blades elliptic to broadly elliptic, 6–13 cm. long, 2.2–5 cm. wide, apex acute to subacuminate, base acute to obtuse, subcoriaceous, moderately shiny above; bacterial nodules linear, restricted to the midrib, few; domatia present; petiole 0.8–1.2 cm. long; stipule-limbs truncate, 2–2.5 mm. long, becoming corky around the margin, arista 0.5–1 mm. long, caducous.. Corymbs terminal on main and lateral leafy branches, occasionally secondary corymbs present, compact, 1.5–3 cm. across; peduncle absent or 1.2–2 cm. long; primary inflorescence-branches 0.6–1.1 cm. long, sparsely puberulous; secondary (–tertiary) branches present; pedicels 1–3 mm. long, sparsely puberulous to puberulous; bracts stipule-like; bracteoles inconspicuous.. Calyx-tube puberulous, ± 1 mm. long; limb-tube glabrous, 0.75–1 mm. long, much wider than the tube; lobes shortly triangular, 0.5–0.75 mm. long, 1.25 mm wide, never overlapping.. Corolla-tube 4–5 mm. long, 2 mm. wide at the top, glabrous outside, bearded at throat; lobes 6–6.5 mm. long, 2–2.5 mm. wide, obtuse to rounded.. Fruit 7 mm. in diameter, shiny, glabrous; calyx-limb persistent, lobes becoming corky; disc conspicuously corky..
