Characteristics

Small tree or shrub, up to 4 m high. Leaves subsessile to distinctly petiolate, obovate-acute, bases attenuate, thick-textured, almost semi-succulent, glossy green, glabrous. Domatia on lower leaf surface. Bacterial nodules along main and secondary veins, sometimes scattered over leaf surface. Inflorescences at ends of leafless, side branchlets; many-flowered, contracted, umbrella-like cymes, subtended by one pair of leaves. Flowers: corolla tube up to 15 mm long; lobes 7 mm long. Calyx: tube urceolate (urn-shaped); lobes linear, 4-6 mm long, cymbiform, green. Flowering time Oct.-Feb. Fruit shiny green, turning black, calyx lobes persistent.
