Characteristics

Shrub 2.5–5 m. tall; young branches glabrous; older branches covered in shiny buff-brown bark.. Leaves glabrous; blades drying green, oblong or oblong-elliptic, 5.5–20 cm. long, 2.8–5.5 cm. wide, apex acute or acuminate, base obtuse, often unequal, coriaceous, slightly shiny above; bacterial nodules linear, restricted to the midrib and occasionally on the lateral nerves; petiole 0.3–2 cm. long; stipule-limbs ovate to truncate, 1.5–3 mm. long, becoming corky with age, slightly keeled, with keel extending as a thickened lobe 1–4 mm. long.. Corymbs terminal on green (not corky) lateral branches 5.5–14.5 cm. long bearing 1–2 pairs of leaves at the apex, lax, 3.5–6 cm. across; primary inflorescence-branches 0.4–1.5 cm. long, glabrous; secondary branches present; pedicels 2–7 mm. long, glabrous; bracts stipule-like, becoming corky; bracteoles inconspicuous.. Calyx glabrous; tube 1.25–2 mm. long; limb-tube 1–2 mm. long, a little wider than the tube; lobes shortly subulate, or triangular, 0.5–2 mm. long.. Corolla-tube 1.5–2.3 cm. long, 2–3 mm. wide at top, glabrous outside, not bearded at throat; lobes oblong, 0.8–1.1 cm. long, 3 mm. wide, acute.. Immature fruit 6 mm. in diameter.
