Leaves crowded on short spurs off the main stem or occasionally borne directly along the young branches only; blades usually turning black when dry, 1.4–5.5 × 0.6–2.7 cm, oblanceolate to obovate, acute to rounded, sometimes mucronulate at the apex, narrowly cuneate at the base, glabrous to scabrid above, glabrous or finely pubescent beneath; domatia absent; bacterial nodules small, dot-like, several, scattered; petiole 0.3–1.5 cm long, sparsely to densely pubescent; stipule limbs truncate, 1–2 mm long, pubescent outside; arista 0.5–1.5 mm long.
Inflorescences terminal on main branches or on slender leafless lateral branches 1.1–5.5 cm long and 1–1.25 mm in diameter, lax, 2.7–4.7 cm across (excluding corollas); primary inflorescence branches 0.1–1 cm long; secondary to tertiary branches present; pedicels 2–7 mm long, pubescent; bracts 4–7 mm long, glabrous or pubescent outside, with silky hairs inside; bracteoles drying brownish.
Corolla tube 1.3–1.6 cm long, c. 1 mm wide at the top, glabrous outside, not bearded at the throat; lobes 5–6 × 1.75 mm, oblong-lanceolate, obtuse to acute.
Calyx pubescent; tube 0.75–1 mm long; limb-tube 0.5–1 mm long, slightly wider than the tube; lobes triangular, 1–2 mm long, 0.5–0.75 mm wide at base.
Shrub 0.6–5 m tall; young branches glabrescent to pubescent; older branches covered with whitish-grey bark.
Fruit black, 7–8 mm in diameter, glabrescent, calyx limb persistent.
Seeds greyish-brown, 5 mm wide, slightly rugulose on convex face.
