Characteristics

Shrub or small deciduous tree to 4(-7) m. Stem bark light brown, smooth. Twigs smooth or hairy, flattened. Leaves opposite or clustered on dwarf side twigs, narrow to broadly elliptic or oblanceolate to obovate, 16-125 x 10-60 mm, apex pointed, round or blunt, often with a hardened tip, base tapered, shiny, light green, smooth or with rough hairs, scattered nodules in the blade, domatia absent. Leaves pungent when crushed. Stalk to 20 mm. Flowers white, strongly scented, calyx end square, wavy or with shallow, 1 mm lobes, corolla tube 4-15 mm. In clusters on short spurs or on lateral branchlets. Fruits black, shiny, ± round, 6-8 mm diam., densely clustered.
