Leaves glabrous; blades drying greenish, 7–14 × 1.8–5 cm, narrowly oblong to oblanceolate, acuminate at the apex, often unequally obtuse to acute at the base, ± coriaceous, shiny above, midrib prominent beneath; lateral nerves in (5)6–8 main pairs; domatia absent; bacterial nodules linear, situated along the midrib, plus a few dot-like and scattered; petiole 0.7–2 cm long, glabrous; stipules triangular, 3–8 mm long, mucronulate, puberulous outside, densely covered with silky hairs inside.
Inflorescences corymbiform, lax, 3.6–7 cm across (excluding corollas); primary branches 0.3–1.7 cm long, glabrous; secondary and often tertiary branches present; pedicels 1–9 mm long, glabrous; bracts brown, papery, 5–9 mm long, sparsely hairy outside, with dense silky hairs inside; bracteoles conspicuous.
Calyx glabrous; tube 1.25–1.5 mm long; limb-tube 1.5–2 mm long, almost twice as wide as the tube, truncate or with subulate lobes not exceeding 0.75 mm long.
Corolla tube 1.4–1.9 cm long, 2.25–3 mm wide at the top, glabrous outside, not bearded at the throat; lobes 1.1–1.4 × 2.5–2.75 mm, oblong, acuminate.
Shrub 1.5–2 m tall; young branches glabrous, older branches covered with buff to pale brown, thin shiny bark.
Inflorescence-supporting branches (3)6–11.5 cm long bearing up to 0–1(2) pairs of leaves at apex.
Fruit black, 0.9–1 cm in diameter, shiny, glabrous; calyx limb persistent.
Seeds blackish, 6 mm wide, ± coarsely rugulose on convex face.
