Leaf blades 5.3–11.7 × 1.7–5 cm, oblanceolate to obovate, shortly acuminate and sometimes mucronulate at apex, cuneate at base, sparsely scabrid or scabrid-pubescent above, sparsely pubescent to pubescent at least on nerves beneath; lateral nerves in 8–9 main pairs; domatia absent; bacterial nodules absent or few, small, dot-like; petiole 0.5–2 cm long, sparsely pubescent to pubescent; stipules 3–4 mm long, truncate to triangular, caudate, densely scabrid pubescent outside.
Inflorescence 1–1.5 cm across (excluding corollas), capitate; pedicels up to 1 mm long; bracts 0.3–1 cm long, acuminate, entirely surrounding base of inflorescence, pubescent-scabrid outside, with silky hairs inside.
Corolla tube 0.8–1.7 mm long, glabrous or with a few hairs outside, pubescent at the throat; lobes 4–5 × c. 1.5 mm, oblong, obtuse to slightly acuminate.
Small shrub 1–3 m tall; branches leafless or with young leaves at time of flowering, covered with flaking fawn bark, finely pubescent when young.
Calyx pubescent; tube 0.75 mm long; limb-tube 0.25 mm long; lobes 2.5–4 × 0.3 mm long, narrowly triangular-subulate.
Inflorescence-supporting branches 1–9 cm long, slender, bearing (1)2 pairs of leaves near apex.
Fruit greenish-grey, 5–8 mm across, pubescent; calyx limb ± persistent but eventually falling.
