Small shrub 1 m. high; branches leafless or with only young leaves at time of flowering, covered with fawn flaking bark, finely pubescent when young.. Leaf-blades oblanceolate to obovate, 5.3–11.7 cm. long, 1.7–5 cm. wide, apex shortly acuminate, sometimes mucronate, base cuneate, sparsely scabrid to scabrid-pubescent above, sparsely pubescent to pubescent on nerves beneath; bacterial nodules absent or few, small, dot-like, mostly confined to the nerves; petiole 0.5–1 cm. long, sparsely pubescent; stipules truncate to triangular, 3–4 mm. long, with caudate tip caducous, densely scabrid-pubescent outside.. Inflorescences terminal on lateral branches 1–9 cm. long eventually bearing 2 pairs of leaves near apex, capitate, 1–1.5 cm. across; pedicels up to 1 mm. long; bracts 0.3–1 cm. long, acuminate, pubescent-scabrid outside, with dense silky hairs inside; bracteoles with a membranous truncate limb bearing numerous fimbriae..
