Characteristics

Leaves clustered on young stems (at least in specimens seen); blades 6–11 × 2.4–4.6 cm, elliptic to broadly elliptic or narrowly obovate, acute and subacuminate or acuminate at the apex, cuneate to long attenuate at the base, thinly papery, glabrous; lateral nerves in 5–6 main pairs; bacterial nodules many, pinprick-sized or small dot-like, scattered; domatia absent; petiole 2–6 mm long; stipule limbs 4–6 mm long, triangular acuminate, glabrous outside.

Inflorescences of many-floweredtight heads, up to 1 cm across (excluding corollas), branches and pedicels entirely suppressed; bracts stipule-like, c. 6 mm long, not persistent.
Corolla white; tube c. 2.2 cm long, 1.25 mm wide at the top, glabrous outside, finely pubescent within; lobes 5–6 × 2 mm, oblong, darkened towards apex but scarcely apiculate.
Calyx tube c. 0.75 mm long, glabrous; limb-tube c. 0.75 mm long, distinctly wider than tube; lobes well spaced, linear, 1–1.3 mm long, glabrous.
Inflorescence-supporting branches very slender, 7.8–10 cm long, leafless but with a node somewhat above the mid-point.
Shrub 1.5–2 m tall; young and older stems glabrous, buff-coloured, slender.
Immature fruit black, 5 mm in diameter, with persistent calyx limb.
