Characteristics

Small, somewhat scandent shrub 1.8–4 m. tall; Young vegetative branches adpressed pubescent, inflorescence-bearing branches sparsely pubescent; older branches with dull buff coloured bark.. Leaf-blades drying greenish, elliptic to oblanceolate or narrowly obovate, 6–14 cm. long, 2.2–6 cm. wide, acuminate at apex, cuneate at base, chartaceous, ciliate, glabrous above, nerves densely covered with short adpressed hairs and surface glabrous to sparsely covered with adpressed hairs beneath; bacterial nodules dot-like, scattered on either side of the midrib and lateral nerves; petiole 0.5–2.3 cm. long, densely covered with short adpressed hairs, stipules ± triangular, 0.5–1 cm. long, densely covered with adpressed hairs outside, caducous.. Corymbs terminal on lateral branches (2–)5–16.5 cm. long bearing 2–3 pairs of leaves near the apex or occasionally terminal on main branches, compact, 2.6(–4 in fruit) cm. across; primary inflorescence-branches obscure in flowering stage, 1–2 mm. long in fruit; secondary and tertiary branches present, but rather obscure in flowering stage; pedicels up to 2 mm. long in flowering stage, densely covered with adpressed hairs, up to 4 mm. long and rather thickened in fruiting state; bracts papery, 4–8 mm. long.. Calyx-tube 1–1.25 mm. long, densely covered with adpressed hairs; limb-tube 1–1.25 mm. long, slightly wider than tube, covered to sparsely covered with adpressed hairs; lobes filiform to linear or linear-triangular, 0.6–1 cm. long, 0.5–1 mm. wide at base, covered with adpressed hairs.. Corolla-tube 1.8 cm. long, ± 2 mm. wide at top, glabrous outside, not bearded at throat; lobes ± oblong, 5–6 mm. long, 2 mm. wide, acuminate, and somewhat thickened beneath the apex.. Fruit red-black, 7 mm. in diameter, glabrescent; calyx-limb persistent.. Seeds blackish, 5–6 mm. wide, rugulose on convex face.
