Leaves confined to the apical regions of main and short lateral branches, sometimes immature at time of flowering; blades 1.7–6.7 × 0.5–1.8(2.1) cm, oblanceolate, obtuse at the apex, cuneate the base, very sparsely pubescent to pubescent above and beneath; lateral nerves in 3–4 main pairs; domatia absent; bacterial nodules small, dot-like, very few to few, scattered; petiole up to 8 mm long, pubescent; stipules with triangular membranous limbs and usually with a short arista, 1–3 mm long, pubescent outside, with silky hairs absent within.
Inflorescences few-flowered, laterally compressed, distinctly longer than wide, 0.5–1(1.5) cm wide (excluding corollas); primary inflorescence branches 0–8 mm long; secondary branches present or absent; pedicels 1–8 mm long, pubescent; bracts 2–3 mm long, pubescent; bracteoles brown, papery, small.
Corolla tube (1.5)1.9–4.5 cm long, 1.5 mm wide at the top, glabrous or sparsely pubescent outside, not bearded at the throat; lobes 6–8 × 1.5–2 mm, lanceolate, obtuse, usually with a short greenish mucro, glabrous or sparsely hairy outside.
Erect or prostrate rhizomatous suffrutex or small shrub, (7.5)15–45(120) cm tall; young branches pubescent; older branches with greyish-brown thin flaking bark.
Calyx pubescent; tube 1 mm long; limb-tube 0.6–1.3 mm long; lobes triangular, 0.5–1(2.5) mm long, 0.5–1 mm wide at base.
Fruit black, 5–7 mm in diameter glossy, glabrescent, occasionally with the pedicels lengthening to 1.5 m.
Inflorescence-supporting branches abbreviated, 0–3.2 cm long, leafless.
Flowers sweet-scented.
Seeds c. 5 mm wide.
