Characteristics

Shrub 2–3 m. tall; branches with grey-buff bark, flaking, hairy when young.. Leaf-blades ovate to obovate, 6.7–16 cm. long, 3.8–6.8 cm. wide, apex obtuse or rounded, with a short calloused mucro, base acute to cuneate, thinly herbaceous, sparsely hirsute on both faces, with denser spreading hairs on the nerves beneath; bacterial nodules linear, few, restricted to the midrib and bases of the lateral nerves; petiole 1–2 cm. long, hirsute; stipules ± ovate, up to 5 mm. long, shortly acuminate, sparsely pubescent outside, with dense silky hairs inside.. Corymbs terminal on leafy branches, lax, 5–10 cm. across; primary inflorescence-branches 0.5–2 cm. long; third to fourth order branches present; pedicels 3–8 mm. long, covered with stiff rust-coloured hairs; bracts ovate, 4–5 mm. long, hirsute outside, with dense silky hairs inside; bracteoles inconspicuous.. Calyx-tube 1.5–2 mm. long, densely covered with rust-coloured stiff spreading hairs; limb-tube 1.5–2 mm. long; lobes variable within each flower, lanceolate or less often linear-lanceolate or narrowly ovate, 10–12 mm. long, 2.5–4 mm. wide, obtuse, hirsute.. Corolla-tube 1.3 cm. long, 4 mm. wide at top, with a few coarse hairs outside, sparsely pubescent within; lobes oblong-oblanceolate, 14 mm. long, 4.5 mm. wide, obtuse, sparsely hirsute beneath.. Style up to 6 cm. long, ± 1 mm. wide, with 1–2 veins apparent.. Fruit and seeds not known.
