Characteristics

Shrub 2.4–5 m. tall; young branches glabrous; older branches covered with fawn shiny bark.. Leaf-blades usually drying blackish, elliptic to ovate, 8.2–17 cm. long, 3.7–7.5 mm. wide, apex acute to slightly acuminate, base acute to cuneate, glabrous, slightly shiny above, dull beneath; bacterial nodules linear and confined to the midrib or sometimes the lateral nerves or rarely elliptic and between the nerves; petiole 1–3.5 cm. long; stipule-limbs drying black with fawn margin, truncate to slightly triangular, 2–7 mm. long, glabrous outside, with long silky hairs inside; arista up to 8 mm. long, usually caducous.. Corymbs terminal on main and lateral leafy branches 9.5–19 cm. long, several-flowered, lax to very lax, 6–13 cm. across; primary inflorescence-branches 0.7–3 cm. long; secondary and tertiary branches present; pedicels 5–18 mm. long, glabrous; bracts, drying blackish, 3–4 mm. long; bracteoles very small.. Calyx glabrous; tube 1–1.25 mm. long; limb-tube 1–2 mm. long, slightly wider than the tube; lobes narrowly triangular or subulate to linear above from a triangular base, 2–4 mm. long, ± 0.75 mm. wide at base.. Corolla-tube 1.2–2.2 cm. long, 2–2.5 mm. wide at the top, glabrous outside and within; lobes oblong-lanceolate, 0.7–1.2 cm. long, 2.5–3 mm. wide, acute to shortly acuminate.. Style 3.2–5.4 cm. long.. Fruit black, ± 7 mm. in diameter, shiny, glabrous.. Seeds ± 5 mm. wide, not fully mature.
