Characteristics

Leaf blades 4.5–11 × 1–4 cm, narrowly elliptic to elliptic or sometimes oblanceolate, acute to subacuminate or shortly acuminate at the apex, cuneate and somewhat decurrent at the base, coriaceous, markedly shiny above; lateral nerves in 5–7 main pairs; tertiary nerves producing a raised fine reticulum on both surfaces; domatia present as small cavities; bacterial nodules linear, restricted to midrib, few and hard to see or sometimes absent; petiole 5–10 mm long; stipule limb 1–1.5 mm long, truncate; arista 1–4 mm long, slightly keeled.

Corymbs terminal on main and lateral leafy branches, often with supplementary corymbs from the 1–2 subterminal nodes and with the leaves from these reduced in size or absent; individual components c. 9-flowered, moderately compact, up to 2 cm across (excluding corollas); peduncles or primary branches 0.7–2 cm long, sparsely puberulous or sometimes puberulous; pedicels 0–3 mm long, puberulous; bracts stipule-like, often bearing reduced leaves; bracteoles brown and chaffy.
Calyx puberulous; tube 1 mm long; limb-tube 1 mm long widening upwards; lobes 0.5 × 1 mm, transversely oblong, truncate, puberulous inside, overlapping in young bud.
Corolla tube 3 mm long, 3 mm wide at the top, glabrous except for densely bearded throat; lobes 5 × 3 mm, oblong-ovate, rounded.
Laxly-branched evergreen glabrous shrub, 3–5 m tall; young branches slender; older branches with light brown bark.
