Characteristics

Erect suffrutex, 0.06-2.00 m high. Leaves ovate to cordate, apex acute, margins serrate-crenate; palmately veined; upper surface dark green, lower surface whitish stellate-pubescent. Flowers axillary, solitary, towards tips of branches; pedicels articulate ± 7 mm from apex. Epicalyx of 5 ovate-trullate bracts, fused at base, lobes wider than 2 mm, margins entire, ciliate (appearing star-shaped). Calyx: lobes ovate, alternating with and 1/3 length of epicalyx. Petals longer than calyx, yellow, rarely white. Flowering time Sept.-Apr. Fruit enclosed by cup-shaped, enlarged epicalyx and calyx (epicalyx lobes spreading). Mericarps 5, 1-seeded; with 3 transverse ridges, lateral sides convex, glabrous, dorsally reticulate. Seeds ovoid-triquetrous, sparsely pubescent.
