Stems erect, spreading or prostrate, sometimes up to 1.5 m tall, numerous from a strong taproot or woody rootstock, much branched, sparsely to densely covered with rather short to long mostly appressed to spreading hairs. Leaflets often rather coriaceous, 8-28(38) x 2-6(14) mm, oblanceolate-elliptic, usually narrowly so, sometimes elliptic or obovate, narrowed to a pungent tip, hairy at first, but usually glabrescent; lower lateral nerves steeply ascending and running into the thickened margin; petiole 0-3(6) mm long; stipules lacking. Flowers bright yellow, turning orange in part, (1)3-8(24), laxly arranged at the end of main and short lateral branches; bracts 3-5(9) mm long, narrowly elliptic-oblanceolate to elliptic; pedicels 2-3 mm long; bracteoles on the pedicel, narrower and shorter than the bract. Calyx (0.9)1-1.4(1.7) cm long, usually appressed or subappressed pubescent, but hairs sometimes sparse or spreading; upper lip 2-3 times as long as the tube, with the lateral sinuses as high to much higher than the upper sinus; upper and lateral lobes narrowly to broadly triangular-falcate, ± acuminate, sometimes adherent or largely united. Standard (1.2)1.5-2 cm long, elliptic to oblong-obovate, hairy medially towards the apex outside. Stamens all joined. Ovary 18-32-ovulate. Pod 2-2.7(3.7) x 0.3-0.5(06) cm, narrowly oblong-pointed, straight or slightly curved, pubescent. Seeds 2.5-3 mm across, oblique-cordiform.
