Characteristics

Dense rounded shrublet, 0.2-0.5 m tall; stems robust, becoming woody with age, ascending, yellowish-green, densely pubescent. Leaves trifoliolate, glaucous; stipules paired at base of petiole, subulate or linear-lanceolate, 1-3 mm long, densely pubescent; petioles 2-4 mm long, densely pubescent; leaflets elliptic-obovate to obovate, apiculate, (8-)10-17(-19) x 4-10 mm, densely sericeous, hairs long, white, giving the appearance of a lute margin, abaxial surface more densely sericeous than adaxial surface, appearing white; midrib prominent below. Inflorescence a single-flowered, usually leaf-opposed raceme on a densely pubescent peduncle (3-)4-8 mm long. Pedicel very short, 1-2 mm long, densely pubescent. Flowers rarely resupinate, 14-17 mm long, pale yellow, sometimes fading pink or brown; bract at base of pedicel, narrowly triangular-elliptic, acuminate, 3 mm long, ± velutinous, hairs long; bracteoles paired at tip of pedicel, similar to bract. Calyx 11-14 mm long, velutinous, but hairs moderately firm, yellow; upper sinus shallowest, ± 2 mm higher than lateral sinuses and 3 mm higher than lower sinuses; lateral sinuses ± 1 mm higher than lower sinuses; upper lobes narrowly triangular, 5-7 x 2-3 mm; lower lobes narrowly triangular, 7-9 x 2-3 mm. Standard obovate, with a deep, somewhat calloused central fold, 11-12 x 8-10 mm: adaxial surface sericeous centrally, hairs long; claw short, 1-2 mm long. Wings oblong-obovate, often twisted where claw joins blade, much longer than the keel, 9-10 x 3-4 mm, with 5 rows of sculpturing on upper basal and upper central zones, sometimes sparsely sericeous on lower central zone; claw long, ± 5 mm long. Keel oblong to sub-rhomboid, with a deep, somewhat calloused lateral pocket; upper margin tapering towards foe apex, 5-6 x 2-3 mm, sometimes sparsely sericeous on central distal part of the blade; claw long, 4-5 mm long. Stamens monadelphous, with the vexillary stamen often free or almost free. Pistil with the ovary narrowly ovate to oblong, velutinous to about half the length of the style; ovules 15-16; style downcurved, shorter than the ovary; stigma capitate. Pods narrowly oblong, slightly inflated; lower margin upcurved towards the apex, 24-31(-33) x 4-5 mm, grey, velutinous, but with hairs moderately firm. Seeds sub-orbicular to oblong, 1-2(-3) mm yellow or black, sometimes with a whitish ring around the hilum.
