Characteristics

Flowers bright yellow, turning orange, usually 1–3 on a terminal or leaf-opposed peduncle, rarely up to 7 in short racemes; bracts 0.5–1.2 cm long, linear-lanceolate; pedicels 2–5 mm long; bracteoles at the top of the pedicel, similar to the bract.

Calyx 1.6–1.9(2.2) cm long, pilose; lobes c. 1.8–2.5 times as long as the tube, attenuately triangular-lanceolate, upper ones a little broader and ± downcurved; lateral sinus nearly equidistant from shallowest upper and deepest lower ones.
Leaflets (1)1.5–3.5 × 0.25–1 cm, oblanceolate or linear-oblanceolate, pilose; petiole 6–13 mm long; stipules resembling the leaflets.
Stems ascending and spreading, (10)15–45(60) cm long, numerous from a branched and rhizomatous rootstock, hirsute.
Pod 3–3.8 × 0.4–0.6 cm, narrowly oblong-pointed, densely pilose.
Standard 2.4–2.7 cm long, elliptic, medially pubescent outside.
Vexillary stamen usually free.
Seeds 2–2.5 mm across.
