Characteristics

Spreading perennial herb, up to 0.7 m in diam., up to 0.3 m in height; pubescent to pubescent-villous with glandular hairs. Stipules ovate to broadly ovate, 2-4 x 1.5-3.0 mm. Leaves arranged in a basal rosette, opposite on spreading stems, simple, ovate in outline, margins sometimes 3-to 5-lobed and usually incised, crenate-dentate, base cordate, glaucous (?), rachis only sometimes reddish; petioles 17-54(-142) mm long; laminae 12-28 x 10-32 mm, pubescent to pubescent-villous adaxially and abaxially, especially along the veins abaxially with glandular hairs interspersed. Inflorescence axillary or rarely leaf-opposed, with (4-)6-12 flowers; peduncles (24-)35-92 mm long; bracts lanceolate to sometimes ovate, (1.5-)2.5-3.0 x 1.0-1.5 mm, abaxially pubescent, adaxially glabrous or only sparsely pubescent; pedicels 0-1 mm long. Hypanthium 3-7 mm long, densely pubescent-villous with glandular hairs interspersed. Sepals 5, ovate-lanceolate, posterior lobe 4.0-4.5 x 1-2 mm, lateral lobes 4.0-4.5 x 1.0-1.5 mm, anterior lobes 4.0-4.5 x 1-2 mm, indumentum as for hypanthium. Petals 5, longer than sepals, pink or magenta with dark pink to purple venation on posterior petals only(?); posterior petals oblanceolate, asymmetrical, 4-6 x 1.0-1.3 mm, apices obtuse; anterior petals oblanceolate, symmetrical or asymmetrical, 5-6 x 1.0-1.5 mm, apices obtuse. Androecium 7(?) fertile anthers, brownish pink, ca. 1 mm long, pollen cream-coloured to orange. Gynoecium ovary 1.5-2.0 mm long; style ca. 1.0 mm long; stigma branches ca. 1.3 mm long, pink to wine-red. Fruit bases of mericarps ca. 2 mm long, glandular, tails 8-9 mm long. Flowering period: November to December and March to April.
