Characteristics

Spreading-prostrate perennial herb, up to 0.5(-0.7) m in diam., up to 0.3(0.6) m in height; pubescent to pubescent-villous with glandular hairs interspersed. Stipules ovate to broadly ovate, 2-3(-4) x 1-3 mm. Leaves arranged in a basal rosette, opposite on spreading stems, simple, ovate in outline, margins 3-to 5-lobed (lower leaves often without lobes), crenate-dentate, base cordate, glaucous or green, rachis sometimes reddish; petioles 13-45(-67) mm long; laminae 13-24 x 13-28 mm, pubescent to pubescent-villous adaxially and abaxially, especially abaxially along the veins with glandular hairs interspersed. Inflorescence axillary, pseudo-umbels, each with (2-)4-6(-8) flowers; peduncles 9-21(-27) mm long; bracts lanceolate, 2.5-3.5 x ca. 1.5 mm, abaxially villous, adaxially glabrous or only sparsely pubescent; pedicels 1-3 mm long. Hypanthium 0.5-1.0 mm long, spreading pubescent-villous with glandular hairs interspersed. Sepals 5, ovate to ovate-lanceolate, posterior lobe 4.5-5.5 x 2.0-2.8 mm, lateral lobes 4.0-5.5 x 1-2 mm, anterior lobes 4.5-5.5 x 1.0-1.5 mm, indumentum as for hypanthium or with longer pilose hairs. Petals 5, longer than sepals, whitish pink to pink or mauve with darker pink to purple venation on the posterior petals; posterior petals oblong, asymmetrical, 6.5-7.5 x 2.0-2.5 mm, apices often emarginate; anterior petals oblanceolate-spathulate, ca. symmetrical, 5.5-7.0 x 1.5-2.0 mm, apices obtuse. Androecium 7 fertile anthers, pink, anther size unknown, pollen orange. Gynoecium ovary 1.5-2.0 mm long; style ca. 1 mm long; stigma branches ca. 1.0-1.5 mm long, pink to wine-red. Fruit bases of mericarps 1.5-2.0 mm long, glandular, tails (6.5)8.0-12.0 mm long. Flowering period: November to May and also sporadically in September.
More
Probably annual, 0.3 m high; multi-stemmed with stems branching at base, ascending; indumentum puberulous to densely canescent. Leaves many, cordiform, 20 mm in diam., 5-lobate, margins obtusely dentate. Inflorescences of 5-9-flowered pseudo-umbels (flowers sessile, causing subcapitate appearance); peduncles 15-35 mm long. Petals purple-pink, size variable, 11/4x length of sepals, cuneate-obovate to spathulate; posterior 2 basally purple-blotched. Flowering time Dec.-Mar.?.
