Characteristics

Geophyte, 120-380 mm high; tuber turnip-shaped or elongated root. Leaves green, petiolate; lamina simple, trifoliolate, pinnate to irregularly bipinnatisect; compound leaves elliptic in outline, 50-70 mm long, pinnae 15-30 mm long, deeply incised, segments laciniate; adaxially glabrous, abaxially hirsute, hairs long, appressed, stiff; petioles 25-30 mm long. Stipules subulate. Inflorescence: scape 20-120 mm long, branched, bearing 2 or 3 pseudo-umbels, each 4-13-flowered. Hypanthium 35-75 mm long. Sepals 5, narrowly triangular. Petals 5, white or pink to flesh-coloured; posterior 2 with wine-red, feather-like markings, obovate to obcordate, 17-34 x 8-15 mm; anterior 3 widely spathulate, smaller. Fertile stamens 5. Flowering time Nov.-Mar.
