Characteristics

Deciduous geophyte. Tuber a turnip-shaped root with a short flattened stem, covered with flaking dark brown tunics, 15-40 mm long and 8-20 mm in diameter. Leaves radical, simple to trilobed or tripartite to 5-lobed or 5-parted, bright green; lamina widely ovate, base cuneate, apex obtuse, margin entire, 18-30 x 12-25 mm, adaxially glabrous, abaxially with bristles along main veins, margins usually with short adpressed bristles; small lateral pinnae widely ovate, 9 x 5-6 mm; petiole 10-60 mm long, densely covered with adpressed bristles; stipules lanceolate, adnate to petioles for half their length, ±10.0 x 1.5 mm, ciliate. Inflorescence: scape radical, 20-90 mm long, branched, bearing 3-6 pseudo-umbellets with 4-9 flowers each; peduncles 30-120 mm long, densely covered with glandular hairs interspersed with coarse hairs; bracts lanceolate, 5-8 x 2-3 mm, adaxially and abaxially hirsute; flower buds, flowers and fruits erect. Pedicel ±0.5 mm long. Hypanthium 9-16 mm long, densely covered with glandular hairs interspersed with soft hairs. Sepals 5, lanceolate, apex acute, 6-9 mm long, 1.5-3.0 mm wide, abaxially densely covered with glandular hairs and adpressed coarse hairs, reddish brown to green. Petals 5, oblanceolate, base cuneate, apex rounded, apices reflexed at 90°, bright pink; posterior two 13-20 x 3.0-5.5 mm, with dark pink markings; anterior three 12-19 x 2.5-5.0 mm. Stamens 10, basally connate, staminal column ±2 mm long, white; perfect stamens 5, varying in length: ±4 mm, ±5 mm and ±7 mm long, pale pink; staminodes ±3 mm long; anthers pale pink, 1,5 mm long, pollen white. Gynoecium: ovary superior, oblong-conical, 5-lobed, 4 mm long, densely sericeous with glandular hairs; style filiform, 1 mm long, pink; stigma with 5 recurved branches, pink; fruit a schizocarp consisting of 5 mericarps, base of mericarp 5-8 mm long, tail 25-30 mm long.
