Characteristics

Small, erect, tufted subshrub, 0.10-0.25 m high; stems tomentose, covered with remains of old stipules. Leaves with lamina flat, ovate to suborbicular, up to 70 x 55 mm, base obtuse to cordate, margins irregularly dentate, ciliate; glabrescent to strigose or pilose; petioles up to 100 mm long. Stipules deltoid, brown. Inflorescences: flowering branches each give rise to 2-4 peduncles, each bearing a 2-4-flowered pseudo-umbel. Flowers large and attractive. Hypanthium 10-15 mm long. Sepals 5, imbricate, connate at base, apex sometimes reflexed. Petals 5, pale pink or lilac; posterior 2 with dark purple veins. Stamens 7, 4 long, 1 medium, 2 short; anthers dark purple. Flowering time Sept.-Jan.
