Decumbent to sprawling, aromatic subshrub; many small root tubers; stems becoming woody, internodes relatively long. Leaves: lamina reniform to ovate, base cordate, margins crenate to shallowly lobed; petiole much longer than lamina. Stipules prominent, white and persistent. Inflorescences with pedicels 1-4 mm long, much shorter than hypanthium. Hypanthium 6-14 mm long. Sepals 5, lanceolate, straight. Petals white, narrowly clawed; posterior petals oblanceolate to spathulate with pink, feather-like markings, larger than lanceolate anterior 3. Flowering time June-Oct.
