Characteristics

Perennial, erect or prostrate herb, 0.10-0.45 m high; rootstock thick, woody with several stems. Leaf blades variable, 20-150 x 2-10 mm, sometimes up to 50x as long as wide, base cuneate, apex acute; petioles up to 2 mm long. Stipules with 3-5 linear segments. Inflorescence a head or short spike; peduncle 90-170 mm long, elongating in fruit. Calyx: tube ± 1 mm long; foliaceous lobe glabrous or ciliate. Corolla blue or violet-blue; tube up to 16 mm long, shortly appressed-hairy; lobes up to 5 x 2 mm. Stigma of 2 filiform lobes. Flowering time Aug.-Apr.
