Perennial herb, 0.2-0.6 m high. Stems erect, straggling or procumbent. Leaves with blade linear to narrowly ovate or oblong, 19-150 x 2.0-9.5 mm, base rounded, apex acute, veins prominent on lower surface, glabrous or margins ciliate. Flowers: main inflorescence terminal, spicate in fruit; corolla blue or violet-blue; Aug.-Apr.
Leaf blades variable, 2–15 cm. x 2–10 mm., linear to oblong or lanceolate sometimes even up to 50 times as long as wide, acute at the apex, cuneate at the base, glabrous or rarely hairy or margins above ciliate; petiole 1.5–2 mm. long; stipules with 3–5 linear segments 2.5–6 mm. long from a base 3–4 mm. long.
