Characteristics

Corolla white or yellowish, glabrous or minutely puberulous on tube angles; tube 4–4.5 mm. long, 1.5 mm. wide at the base, 0.8 mm. wide in the middle, expanded apically to 1.8 mm.; lobes 0.9 x 0.6 mm., tips inflexed, roughened, 3.8 mm. long overall; stigma lobes 0.9 mm. long the tips just exserted.

Leaves very thin, 3.5–14 x 1–6.5 cm., oblong-elliptic to ± lanceolate, acuminate at the apex, cuneate at the base, sparsely appressed pubescent above, minutely puberulous on venation beneath; petiole 0.3–2 cm. long; stipule setae up to 5 mm. long.
Fruits 3.4–4 mm. long and broad, oblong-obtriangular, not elongate, calyx lobes persistent, reticulated and venose at their bases; beak 1.5 mm. tall.
Fruiting inflorescence branched consisting of an umbel of 4 spikes, together with several truly terminal flowers in the axil; spikes 9–26 cm. long.
Anthers 1 mm. long, just included; throat densely hairy and tube hairy below, papillate at the base.
Branched herb, 0.45–1.2 m. tall; root-system of small extent, 9 x 6 cm., annual or biennial.
Calyx tube 2 mm. long and wide; lobes deltoid, unequal, largest 3–4 x 1.5–2 mm.
