Characteristics

Compact, multi-stemmed, aromatic shrublet, 0.2-1.0 m tall; stems erect or spreading, rarely prostrate, well-branched; branches densely leafy, grey-felted. Leaves alternate, suberect to spreading, 3.0-10 mm x 2.0-6.0 mm, trifid except for a few lower and uppermost leaves which often remain entire, densely silvery or grey-felted, lobes linear-oblanceolate, 1.0-5.0 x 0.5-1.0 mm, mucronulate, leathery, petioles 1.0-4.0 mm long, tuberculate at base; auricles minute. Capitula discoid, homogamous, arranged in dense, simple corymbs of (3)4-10-heads. Involucre broadly cyathiform, 3.0-8.0 x 2.0-3.0 mm; involucre bracts 3 or 4-seriate, grey-felted; outer bracts lanceolate, 2.0-2.5 mm long; middle and inner bracts lanceolate to oblanceolate, 2.5-3.5 mm long, with light yellowish-brown, scarious margins and apices. Receptacle convex, epaleate, alveolate. Florets bisexual, numerous. Corolla ±2.0 mm long, yellow, glandular; tube ±1.0 mm long, ± as long as limb; limb campanulate, ±1.0 mm long, 5-lobed; lobes triangular, erect. Anthers ±1.0 mm long including apical appendages, ecaudate and obtuse or slightly sagittate at base; apical appendages ovate, obtuse to acute. Style terete with thickened base; branches ±0.5 mm long, truncate, papillate apically-dorsally. Pappus usually obliquely cup-shaped or occasionally auriculate, adaxially longer, 0.7-0.9 mm long, extending up to base of corolla limb, membranous, white, irregularly lobed. Cypselas oblong, ±1.5 x 0.5 mm, 5 or 6-ribbed, glandular between ribs, mucilaginous when soaked. Flowering occurs from mid-summer to early winter, between January and June.
