Characteristics

Leaf-lamina 6·5–15 × 8·5–21 cm., broadly ovate in outline, cordate, usually deeply, coriaceous, dark green, shiny, glabrous except for veins above and occasionally veins beneath, becoming punctate above with age, usually coarsely sinuate-dentate at margins with small apiculate teeth, shallowly to moderately deeply palmately 5-lobed, lobes triangular to ovate-triangular or sometimes rounded, usually shortly acuminate, apiculate, the central largest.

Receptacle-tube 20–30 mm. long, glabrous; lobes 4–8 mm. long, lanceolate. Petal 2·6–2·9 cm. long, c. 1/2 as broad, yellow or pale yellow.
Female flowers on 2–3·5 cm. long pedicels; ovary 22–30 × 4–6 mm., ellipsoid, glabrous; receptacle-tube 14–21 mm. long, lobes 5–22 mm. long, triangular-lanceolate; petals 2·4–4·2 cm. long.
Stems scandent to 8 m. or more, often reaching the canopy of tall trees, rarely prostrate, glabrous or almost so.
Fruit 8·5–15 × 2·5–8 cm., ovoid-oblong, subrostrate, acute; fruit-stalk 3–5·5 cm. long.
Petiole 1·5–7·5 mm. long, glabrous.
Seeds 6·3–9 × 3·3–5 × 1·5–1·7 mm.
