Cultivation

Origin: in Fallbrook, Calif., by AR. Chenoweth. Introd. in 1946. Plant patent 667; 15 Jan. 1946. Mexican seedling; discovered in 1933. Tree: symmetrical; tends to develop a strong central leader with long drooping lateral branches; more cold resistant than Fuerte; blooms in February. Planted in home gardens in southern California. Fruit: size medium, 6 to 10 oz; long oval; skin dull green; soft leathery, surface slightly rough, no corkiness in early part of season but develops later on, excellent peeling quality; flesh light yellow, fiber-free, soft, melting, flavor mild, quality very good, oil content 11.5% as early as mid-September, progressing to 20%; seed 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 oz, tight in cavity; ripens from September into December.
