Characteristics

Bush ± 75-100 cm high, stems woody, whitish, with some scattered, coarse, stiff setae. Leaves variable in form and size, oblanceolate to linear-lanceolate, up to 3 x 1 cm, apex obtuse, thinly coriaceous, puberulous with short crisped hairs when young, glabrescent with age, cystoliths distinct. Pedicels ± 8 mm long, minutely glandular pubescent. Bracteoles broadly ovate, ± 2 x 1.5 cm, shiny white, papery in texture, nerves prominent, reticulated, dark green and minutely glandular pubescent, margin on the inner side shortly lanate, apex with a long mucro. Calyx 5-fid, lobes narrow, subulate, ±12 mm long, beset with large gland-tipped hairs. Corolla large, 3 cm long, tube pale brown, limb mauve; tube narrow at the base, funnel-shaped at the throat; lobes spreading, rounded. Stamens and pistil of the genus. Ovary glandular.
