Characteristics

Shrub or tree 2–10 m high. Leaves more or less elliptic; lamina 2–10 cm long, 1–4 cm wide; petiole 2–5 mm long. Inflorescence of 4–10-flowered clusters; clusters mainly axillary but also terminating each branch; involucral bracts 2, glabrous, deciduous; peduncle 2–16 mm long. Flowers dimorphic, with short hairs outside, white, creamy white or pinkish; pedicel to 0.3 mm long, glabrous. Hypanthium 8–17 mm long. Sepals 4 or 5, ±ovate, 3–5 mm long. Stamens either all exserted or upper ones slightly exserted and lower ones included. Mature fruit 1–1.5 cm long, red.
