Characteristics

Tall shrub or tree 3.5–10 m high, often multi-stemmed at base. Leaves elliptic or narrowly elliptic; lamina 9–21 cm long, 4–7.5 cm wide; petiole 5–15 mm long. Inflorescence of 5–7-flowered clusters; clusters axillary or lateral; involucral bracts 4, glabrous except a few hairs inside along midrib, deciduous; peduncle 3–13 cm long, sometimes branched. Flowers dimorphic, white; pedicel to 0.3 mm long, glabrous. Hypanthium 28–40 mm long, glabrous. Sepals 4 or 5, narrowly ovate to ovate, 7–9 mm long, with minute hairs outside. Stamens either all exserted or upper ones slightly exserted and lower ones included. Mature fruit 2–2.5 cm long, red.
