Characteristics

Leaves 9–20 cm long; petiole 2–5 cm long, rachis 4–10 cm long, fulvous-puberulous; petiolules 1–2 mm long; leaflets 7–9, 2–8 × 1.5–3.5 cm, obovate or oblong-obovate or subelliptic, broadly obtuse or rounded or retuse at the apex, rounded or obtuse at the base, leathery, light green, concolorous, glabrous on upper surface, grey-pubescent beneath; lateral nerves in 4–6 pairs, reticulate venation prominent beneath; stipules 2–5 mm long, acute, persistent; stipels 1–2 mm long or absent.

Standard patent-reflexed, subcircular, 10–12 mm in diameter, with calluses and small inflexed auricles at the base, claw c.2 mm long; wings as long as the standard, rounded at the apex, auricle obtuse, claw c.2 mm long; keel petals broader than the wings, dorsally slightly connate, auricle and claw as in wings.
Inflorescence a terminal panicle 15–35 cm long with short or elongate branchlets, grey-tomentose; bracts and bracteoles 2–3 mm long, lanceolate-acute, falling early.
Calyx 6–7 mm long; tube as long as or longer than the teeth; upper teeth separated by a small notch, the others 2–3 mm long, obtuse or subacute.
Ovary 3–5-ovulate, shortly stipitate, densely pilose; style c.2 mm long, glabrous.
Pod 1–2-seeded, 5–9 × 2–2.5 cm, subsessile, leathery, tomentellous-glabrescent.
Flowers mauve or pale purple, 10–12 mm long; pedicels 1–2 mm long.
Branchlets fulvous-or grey-tomentellous, bark grey.
Seed up to 14 × 8 × 5 mm; testa reddish-brown.
