Cultivation

Origin: in Bou Denib, French Morocco, North Africa. Introd. by Walter T. Swingle, U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, in 1927. Tree: high tolerance to rain and high humidity; prolific offshoot production. The second most important commercial variety in the U.S. Fruit: soft type; large, 38-48 x 26-32 mm, oblong-oval to ovate; skin medium, orange-red when immature, amber at maturity, reddish-brown when cured; flesh soft; flavor mildly rich, pleasing; quality good; cures well; ripens early.
