Characteristics

Squamate plants; green, compressed young internodes to 7 cm long and 3-4 mm wide, becoming terete; all long internodes, whether in percurrent or lateral positions, with 1 pair of short, brownish, tubular cataphylls 0.1-0.2 cm above node; innovations with 3-5 percurrent internodes eventually followed by a terminal inflorescence. Leaf scales 0.1 cm long, acute and apparently caducous. Monoecious. Inflorescence mostly lateral, 1 cm long, doubling in length when fruiting, with 1 sterile internode 0.1 cm long and 3 or 4 fertile internodes; flowers 3 per bract, apical one male, 2 lateral ones female. Fruit orange, ovoid, 0.6 x 0.5 cm, smooth, perianth segments erect.
