Plants often rather small, glabrous, erect; internodes sharply quadrangular at least when young; basal cataphylls 1, nearly axillary, inconspicuous. Petiole indistinct; blade obovate to lanceolate-spatulate, 2-5 cm, apex rounded, base cuneate. Monoecious. Inflorescence to 2.5 cm or more, 1-3 in leaf axils, mostly lacking sterile bracts; fertile internodes 3-6; flowers mostly to 9 per fertile bract, 2-seriate. Fruit yellow or slightly orange (not red), spherical, 0.2-0.3 cm in diam., perianth segments closed.
A shrub. It grows attached to other plants. It keeps growing from year to year.
