Characteristics

Corolla 3.5–4.8(5.5 in Dem. Rep. Congo) cm long, pale yellow to orange, puberulous with scattered brown scales and small stellate hairs, largely glabrescent; apical swelling of bud slight, 7–8 × 1.8–2 mm, oblong-claviform, apiculate, slightly 5-ribbed; basal swelling 0; lobes weakly erect, 1.6–2 cm long, narrow, slightly expanded in upper half, apiculate 1–2 mm beyond stigma and there thickened and papillate-hairy inside.

Petiole 5–15 mm long; lamina coriaceous, glaucous with age, soon discolorous, 5–14 × 3–6 cm, ovate-elliptic to elliptic, obtuse at apex, cuneate to rounded or shortly cordate at base, densely pale lepidote and finely stellate hairy above (appearing glabrous), similarly beneath but also with fine gradually shed covering of short red-brown dendritic hairs, with 4–7 pairs of obscure lateral nerves.
Umbels in lower axils and mostly confluent at old nodes, 2–4-flowered; peduncle 0–1 mm long; pedicels 1–2 mm long; bract 2–5 mm long, ovate-lanceolate, ovate or slightly obovate, tomentellous like pedicels and receptacle but slightly glabrescent.
Spreading shrub; branchlets tomentellous with short red-brown dendritic hairs to 0.8 mm long, tardily glabrescent.
Style slender, narrowed slightly in upper 5–6 mm; stigma capitate.
Mature berries not seen, said to be size of a large pea.
Receptacle 1.5–2.5 mm long, red-brown tomentellous.
Anthers 4–7 mm long, with 8–12 cells in each row.
Calyx 1–2 mm long, lobed, ciliate.
