Species

Angiosperms > Santalales > Loranthaceae > Phragmanthera

Characteristics

Branches 1–2 m. long, the longer ones pendent; branchlets tomentose with red-brown dendritic hairs 0.5–1.5 mm. long, tardily glabrescent.. Petiole 0.5–2 cm. long; lamina coriaceous, ovate to elliptic or elliptic-oblong, 8–20 cm. long, 3.5–9 cm. wide, obtuse to shortly rounded at the apex, cuneate to rounded or shortly cordate at the base, with fine felty tomentum when young of grey and red-brown stellate hairs, with some short dendritic hairs medially beneath, glabrescent, with 6–10 pairs of inconspicuous lateral nerves.. Umbels confluent around older nodes mostly below current leaves, sessile or subsessile, 2–4-flowered; pedicels 0–1.5 mm. long; bract ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 3–6 mm. long, hairy.. Receptacle 2–3.5 mm. long, red-brown tomentose.. Calyx (0.5–)1–1.5 mm. long, tomentose, ultimately sometimes somewhat glabrescent.. Corolla 3.5–5 cm. long, coloured by red-brown tomentum outside, reddish on head of bud, pink to orange-red inside, red along filament-lines and darkening red overall, red-brown tomentose with dendritic hairs to 1.5 mm. long and sometimes subsimple hairs to 3 mm. long, slightly glabrescent on head of bud; apical swelling of bud ovoid to globose-ellipsoid, 3.5–5 mm. long, 3–3.5 mm. in diameter, pointed; basal swelling 6–7 mm. long, 4–5 mm. in diameter; lobes erect, 8–12 mm. long; tips elliptic, apiculate, 3–4 mm. long, 1.5–2 mm. wide, hardened inside.. Filaments dark red; anthers 1.2–2 mm. long, with 5–7 cells in each row.. Style abruptly expanded to twice its diameter opposite top of corolla-tube, then tapered slightly to the neck; neck 1.2–2 mm. long.. Berry ellipsoid, 1.5 cm. long, 1 cm. in diameter, reddish tomentellous.
