Branches spreading to pendent, 1–2 m. long; branchlets tomentose with short white to brown dendritic hairs on youngest internodes, soon glabrescent with only grey stellate hairs and scales, then glabrous.. Petiole 1–3 cm. long; lamina dark green, paler beneath, coriaceous, oblong-lanceolate or oblong-elliptic to elliptic or ovate, 5–20 cm. long, 2–11 cm. wide, obtuse to rounded at the apex, cuneate to rounded or cordate at the base, soon glabrescent, with 6–8 pairs of inconspicuous lateral nerves.. Umbels confluent in older axils and mostly around nodes below the current leaves, 2–6-flowered; peduncle 0–2(–3) mm. long; pedicels 1–3 mm. long; bract ovate or ovate-lanceolate, ± acuminate at the apex, 2–4 mm. long, hairy to varying degrees.. Receptacle cylindrical, 1.2–2.5 mm. long, tomentellous.. Calyx 0.5–1.5 mm. long, usually glabrescent, ciliate.. Corolla 3–5 cm. long, yellow to orange, reddening on basal and especially apical swelling of bud, reddening on tube inside, brownish pubescent to tomentellous with stellate and ± short dendritic hairs in bud, but glabrescent to varying degrees at least on the head and basal swelling, sometimes nearly glabrous overall; apical swelling of bud ovoid-ellipsoid to nearly globular, slightly apiculate and 5-ribbed, 3–3.5(–4) mm. long, 2–2.5(–3) mm. in diameter; basal swelling 3–6 mm. long, 2–3 mm. in diameter, with the tube generally distinctly narrowed for several mm. above; lobes erect, 8–12 mm. long; tips elliptic, apiculate, 3–4 mm. long, 1.5 mm. wide, hardened inside.. Filaments red; anthers 1–2 mm. long, with 3–6 cells in each row.. Style red above, slightly broadened upwards to shoulder; neck 1–2 mm. long.. Berry blue-green, broadly ellipsoid, 10 mm. long, 6–8 mm. in diameter, glabrescent; seed bright orange-red.
