Characteristics

Small shrubs. Lvs simple, opposite, occasionally the upper alternate, crenulate-serrulate. Infl. a terminal, secund, cymose, bracteate, open panicle; fls pedicellate, bracteolate. Calyx much < corolla tube, with 5 equal lobes. Corolla tube narrowly trumpet-shaped, curved or nearly straight, sometimes ± gibbous at base, with 5 subequal lobes, glandular on inner face. Stamens 4, exserted, sometimes a staminode also present. Capsule septicidal, ovoid, ± oblique. Seeds finely reticulate, numerous, small; apex bluntly angled; wing 0.
