Characteristics

Annual herb, often aquatic, erect, glabrous except for scattered hairs on adaxial surface of involucre; terrestrial form to c. 5 cm high; aquatic form to c. 15 cm high. Leaves widely spaced, linear or linear-lanceolate, 2.5–12 mm long, 0.2–1.2 mm wide, in aquatic forms filiform, to 20 mm long. Inflorescence of axillary and terminal solitary flowers; peduncles to 32 mm long. Involucre obscurely 6-nerved; tube 1.5–3 mm long; lobes 0.4–1.1 mm long. Corolla tube 0.9–1.1 mm long; lobes 0.5–0.6 mm long. Stamens c. 0.5 mm long; anthers minutely apiculate. Styles separate. Capsule 2–2.5 mm long. Seeds brown, reticulate.
