Monoecious, erect, completely glabrous annual herb up to 40 cm. tall.. Orthotropic stems terete, greenish. Plagiotropic shoots up to 11 cm. long, the older ones usually co-axillary with secondary orthotropic shoots.. Cataphylls minute, subulate, 0.5 mm. long. Cataphyllary stipules triangular, 0.3 mm. long.. Leaves of the plagiotropic shoots distichous, very shortly petiolate (petioles 0.3 mm. long); blades elliptic to elliptic-ovate, 4–8 mm. long, 2–6 mm. wide, obtuse or rounded, rounded-cuneate, membranaceous, lateral nerves 4–6 pairs, not prominent above nor beneath, dark green above, paler beneath.. Stipules triangular-lanceolate, 0.3 mm. long, pale green.. Male flowers solitary or paired in the axils of the lower third of the flowering shoots, the females solitary in those of the upper two-thirds.. Male flowers: pedicels capillary, 1–2 mm. long; sepals 5, obovate, 0.8 mm. long and wide, truncate with a brown apiculum, otherwise cream; disc-glands 5, free, minute, obreniform-lunate, flattish, smooth; stamens 5, filaments connate for 1/3 their length, anthers minute, bilocular, ovoid, vertically held, 0.2 mm. long, longitudinally dehiscent, yellow.. Female flowers: pedicels 1.5 mm. long, thickening towards the apex; sepals 6, elliptic, 1 mm. long, 0.7 mm. wide, acute to subacute with a brownish apex, otherwise pale green with hyaline margins; disc shallowly cupular, very shallowly 6-lobed, the lobes rounded, smooth; ovary subsessile, hexalobate, 0.5 mm. diameter, ± smooth; styles free, 0.25 mm. long, suberect, bifid, the stigmatic lobes slightly recurved.. Fruit depressed-subglobose, 1 mm. long, 1.5 mm. diameter, slightly roughened at the apex, otherwise ± smooth, olivaceous.. Seeds triquetrous, 0.75 mm. long, 0.5 mm. wide, light brown, with 9 longitudinal rows of small darker brown tubercles on the dorsal facet, and with 6–7 concentric arcs of tubercles on each ventral facet.
