Characteristics

Monoecious glabrous shrub up to 3 m.. Twigs greyish brown.. Orthotropic stems slender, angular. Plagiotropic shoots 5–8 cm. long, angular, caducous. Brachyblasts present, co-axillary with the plagiotropic shoots, later themselves each giving rise to a lateral orthotropic shoot and/or one or more secondary plagiotropic shoots.. Cataphylls linear-setaceous, 1 mm. long. Cataphyllary stipules lanceolate, 1 mm. long, purplish.. Leaves of the plagiotropic shoots ± distichous; petioles 1 mm. long; blades elliptic, (7–)10–15(–19) mm. long, (4–)7–10(–12) mm. wide, rounded, obtuse or sub-acute, sometimes mucronulate, rounded or rounded-cuneate at the base, firmly membranaceous, lateral nerves 5–7 pairs, not or scarcely prominent above or beneath, pale dull green above, slightly glaucous beneath.. Stipules linear, 1 mm. long, greenish.. Male flowers 1–2 per axil in the proximal axils of the plagiotropic shoots, ♀ usually solitary in the distal axils.. Male flowers: pedicels 2 mm. long; sepals 6, elliptic-ovate, 1 mm. long, 0.75 mm. wide, the 3 outer mucronate, the 3 inner acuminate, with a median yellowish-green band on either side of the midrib, and whitish hyaline margins; disc-glands 6, free, thick, bilobed, ± smooth; stamens 3, free, 0.5 mm. long, anthers reniform, apically and longitudinally dehiscent.. Female flowers: pedicels 2.5 mm. long, extending to 3 mm. in fruit, slender, perceptibly distally dilated; sepals 6, elliptic-oblong, 1.3 mm. long, 0.8 mm. wide, obtuse, with a median pale green band on either side of the midrib, and narrow white hyaline margins; disc flat, shallowly 6-lobed, the lobes truncate, densely papillose on the outer edge; ovary sessile, depressed-globose, 1 mm. diameter, shallowly tuberculate-rugulose; styles 0.75 mm. long, free, divaricate, bifid to halfway, stigmas filiform..
