Characteristics

Perennial herb c. 120-300 mm tall, stems branched from the base, base woody, branches twiggy, leafy, glandular-puberulous, also with eglandular, retrorse, somewhat curved hairs c. 0.4-0.75 mm long, these more or less confined to two broad bands. Leaves opposite, lowermost c. 7-8 x 3.5 mm (including 2 mm petiolar part), diminishing in size upwards, blade elliptic to ovate-elliptic tapering into the petiolar part, thick-textured, base expanded, half-clasping, margins with 2-4 pairs of teeth, with a few patent hairs c. 0.5-1 mm long, a few sometimes scattered on the leaf surface. Flowers few in somewhat lax racemes up to c. 15 mm long. Bracts: lowermost sometimes leaf-like and then c. 4.5 x 1.5 mm, otherwise spathulate to linear-oblong c. 3-4 x 0.75-1.5 mm, glabrous except for a few marginal hairs c. 0.5 mm long, adnate to pedicel and calyx tube. Pedicels up to 1 mm long. Calyx obscurely bilabiate, tube c. 0.75 mm long, anticous lobes c. 1.25 x 0.5 mm, margins with short patent hairs otherwise glabrous. Corolla tube c. 2.5-3 x 0.6-1 mm, cylindric, widening in throat, limb c. 3-3.25 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 0.75-1 x 0.75 mm, anticous lobe 1.5-1.75 x 1 mm, all lobes elliptic-oblong, white to light mauve-blue, yellow/orange patch at base of posticous lip, there either glabrous or bearded. Stamens 4, anthers c. 0.5 mm long, dark-coloured. Stigma well exserted. Capsules 2.5-3 x 1.5 mm Seeds c. 0.75 x 0.5 mm, colliculate, irregularly wrinkled, pale amber-coloured.
