Species

Angiosperms > Lamiales > Scrophulariaceae > Phyllopodium

Characteristics

Annual herb 70-200(-300) mm tall, stems simple to well branched from the base, lower branches often decumbent, base becoming woody in large plants, upper parts herbaceous, leafy, glandular-puberulous especially on upper parts, pubescent as well with retrorse eglandular hairs 0.5-1 mm long. Leaves opposite below, alternate above, blade of lower leaves (2-3 pairs) c. 7-15(-25) x 3-8(-10) mm, elliptic, rapidly smaller and narrower upwards, uppermost ± linear, petiolar part 3-8 mm long, margins serrate, long patent hairs on petiolar part and over the veins on lower surface, upper surface glabrous or nearly so, occasionally whole leaf nearly glabrous. Flowers many in crowded heads rapidly elongating into somewhat lax racemes terminating the nude pedunculoid branch tips. Bracts 3.5-5 x 0.6-1 mm, narrowly to more broadly spathulate, adnate to pedicel and calyx tube, margins with patent hairs 0.4-0.6 mm long. Pedicels at base of racemes 1-1.5(-2) mm long, shorter upwards. Calyx obscurely bilabiate, tube 0.75-1.25 mm long, anticous lobes 1.25-1.75 x 0.5-0.6 mm, margins with patent hairs up to c. 0.3 mm long. Corolla tube 2-3 mm long, 0.75-1 mm diam. in lower part, quickly broadening upwards, limb (2.5-)3.25-5 mm across the lateral lobes, posticous lobes 0.5-0.8 x 0.75-1 mm, anticous lobe 1.5-3 x 0.75-1.5 mm, all lobes elliptic, white or rarely mauve with orange-yellow patch at base of posticous lip, bearded there and short way down back of tube, hairs sometimes extending to lateral lobes. Stamens 4, anthers 0.5-0.75 mm long. Stigma well exserted. Capsules 2.5-3 x 1.5-2 mm Seeds c. 0.75 x 0.5 mm, irregularly colliculate and wrinkled, amber-coloured.
More
