Characteristics

Diminutive annual herb 30-55 mm tall, stem simple to branched from the base, sparsely leafy, glandular-puberulous, hairs patent, up to 0.25 mm long, eglandular hairs as well, but often sparse. Leaves opposite below, alternate above, blade of lowermost 1-2 pairs c. 5-7 x 2-4 mm, elliptic tapering to a petiolar part c. 3.5-5 mm long, upper leaves smaller, linear-lanceolate, margins entire to sparsely toothed, glandular-puberulous mainly on margins. Flowers 2-6 in crowded heads sometimes elongating into racemes, then lowermost flowers often distant. Bracts up to c. 2.5-3 x 0.5 mm, oblong, adnate to pedicel and lower part of calyx tube, glandular-pubescent on margins and inner face, patent eglandular hairs to c. 0.5 mm on lower margins. Pedicel up to c. 0.4 mm long. Calyx obscurely bilabiate, tube c. 1 mm long, anticous lobes c. 1.2 x 0.6 mm, whole calyx puberulous with glandular and eglandular hairs, lobes often flushed with purple. Corolla tube c. 1.8 x 0.8 mm, limb c. 2 mm across the lateral lobes, posticous lobes c. 0.4 x 0.3 mm, anticous lobe c. 0.75 x 0.4 mm, all lobes white, patch of minute hairs at base of posticous lip. Stamens 4, anthers c. 0.25 mm long. Stigma exserted. Capsules c. 2.5 x 2 mm Seeds c. 0.75 x 0.5 mm, colliculate and irregularly wrinkled, amber-coloured.
