Stem repent or trailing, rooting at most of the nodes, villosulous; stipules per-sistent; leaves almost orbicular, 5-12 mm. wide, crenate, usually strigillose with stiff, hyaline hairs on both surfaces, the cystoliths inconspicuous; plants dioecious or occasionally monoecious, the staminate flowers usually clustered in the uppermost axils, the pistillate in dense, short-peduncled cymes; achenes barely 0.4 mm. long.
