Shrub 0.1–1 m or more high. Stems glabrous. Leaves opposite, shortly petiolate, usually narrowly elliptic to linear, glabrous, concolorous, medium green; lamina 2–30 mm long, 1–5 mm wide. Inflorescence usually erect, compact; involucral bracts 4 or rarely 6, usually ovate, 4–15 mm long, 2.5–8 mm wide, glabrous outside, usually hairy inside, not ciliate, green or very rarely reddish. Flowers bisexual or rarely female, glabrous inside, usually white or cream, rarely pale pink or yellow. Hypanthium 6–16 mm long or rarely 4.5–6 mm, rather to very densely hairy outside below circumscission point; distal 2.5–12 mm with finer antrorse hairs. Sepals 1.5–4 mm long, hairy outside. Stamens longer or shorter than sepals; anther locules semi-latrorse or rarely introrse. Ovary glabrous or rarely distally hairy.
