Characteristics

Shrub or undershrub 0.2–3 m high. Leaves opposite, shortyl petiolate, linear to oblong-elliptic, medium green on adaxial surface, paler abaxially. Inflorescence of axillary, 2–10-flowered clusters; clusters subtended by petiolate bracts and minute sessile bracts below; involucral bracts elliptic or narrowly elliptic, c. 1.5–6 mm long, c. 1–2.5 mm wide, glabrous inside. Flowers glabrous inside, white or whiteish; pedicel hairy. Male flowers: hypanthium 3–6 mm long; sepals 1.5–3 mm long. Female flowers: hypanthium 2–5 mm long, circumscissile above ovary or irregularly splitting lower down, style-portion 0.5–2 mm long; sepals 1–1.8 mm long; ovary distally hairy. Fruit dry, enclosed or with apex protruding.
