Characteristics

Shrub 0.6–2 m high. Stems glabrous. Leaves opposite, shortly petiolate, narrowly obovate to elliptic, glabrous, medium green and sometimes purplish on adaxial surface, paler abaxially; lamina 5–20 mm long, 2–6 mm wide. Inflorescence pendulous, compact, many-flowered; involucral bracts 6 or 8, broadly ovate-elliptic or nearly so, 12–19 mm long, 9–15 mm wide, glabrous, pale green and usually partially reddish purple. Flowers bisexual, glabrous inside, pale yellow. Hypanthium 8–12 mm long, circumscissile, glabrous; style-portion 5–9 mm long. Sepals 2–3 mm long, hairy outside. Stamens equalling or shortly exceeding sepals; anther locules latrorse. Ovary distally hairy.
