Characteristics

Shrub to 2 m high, with tough red bark. Leaves decussate, closely imbricate; petiole c. 0.5 mm long, on a persistent leaf base bearing a small tuft of fibres after the leaf has been shed; lamina elliptic or narrowly lanceolate, (8–) 10–20 mm long, (2–) 4–6 mm wide, rounded at base, blunt at apex, coriaceous, dull pale green, glabrous. Inflorescence a terminal head of c. 9 flowers. Flowers bisexual, white. Hypanthium 1–1.5 cm long, villous-sericeous. Sepals ovate, 2 mm long, white, villous-sericeous below, glabrous above. Stamens exserted. Fruit a brown ellipsoidal nut, 2–3 mm long.
